I just came across a poster when sorting through my large art folio/bag.
I wanted to share it with you as we often think that things have changed, that things are bad just now and it is hard to find ‘me’ again. Reading these words inspired me and allowed me to be more at peace with myself – as the world is rushing by.
The interesting thing to note as you read that these thoughts were written in 1978 – just over 30 years ago and they still ring so true.
Desiderata Reconsidered by Tony Buzan
Judge your position amid the noise and haste, and realize what exhilaration there may be in the balancing of relationships. Always be able to be on all terms with all persons, knowing your base and the bases from which you speak to them and they reply.
Speak your truths as they must be spoken; and listen to others, for there are no dull and ignorant people; only those who have different ways.
Draw energy from the loud and aggressive person, for he is driven by a force, and your spirit has an infinite capacity to understand.
Compare yourself with others in order that you may realize differences, that each is unique, and that there is not advantage in terms that divide us into greater and lesser.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your failures; they are similar elements considered in a different light.
Remain true to your own interests, and do not fetter them with careers or judgment – they are your definitions as you travel the undulations of Time.
Exercise caution lest you become too involved in your business affairs, for your possible choice of mazes has no limit.
And do not be blinded to think that you alone know what virtue is; all persons strive for ideals; and everywhere life is full.
Be yourself. Especially do not cease to Be.
Neither be categorical about your ideals, for in the face of all possibility and change there are no constants in the Universe. Take wisely the fluctuations and offerings of time, never surrendering the things of your youth or your past, for you are what you have been and are being and will be.
Nurture strength of understanding to shield you from the danger of believing that there can be misfortune. And do not distress yourself by chaining your imagination.
Many beautiful things are born of rest and solitude; Be with yourself as you must be, there is nothing beyond.
You are a messenger of the Universe. All beauty lives within you.
