Recently Jennifer Goddard, Director and Master Trainer, Buzan Centre appeared on Insight program on SBS TV Australia, to explore the topic of Intelligence and what is intelligence. (see information on your 10 Intelligences) 

There was an interesting and passionate debate around whether programs offered to the public can add real value to corporate executives and the need for peer review.

New scientific research has unlocked the secrets of the adult brain. It is not hard wired but plastic. You can teach an old dog new tricks.

Brain training is one of the fastest growing new industries. Some organisations claim they can make you more intelligent or unleash your genius. But can they and do they really work?

If you could, would you make yourself smarter? And do we really know what intelligence is?

Scientists, psychologists, Rhode scholars, millionaire’s and brain trainers shared a journey along the neural pathways and dived into how our brain works .

Professor Con Stough is neuropsychologist at the Brain Sciences Institute at Swinburne University where he studies human intelligence. His work in this area also focuses on the use of natural medicines and pharmaceuticals to improve cognitive performance. Con was also responsible for developing the test used for the televised National IQ Test program.

Tim Hannan is a clinical psychologist based in Sydney. Tim conducted a study comparing the IQs of Australian and American children and found that kids here did better.

Dr Michael Valenzuela is a Research Fellow at the School of Psychiatry at the University NSW where he studies Regenerative Neuroscience. He was awarded the Eureka Prize for Medical Research in 2006 for his PhD on how mental activity can prevent the onset of dementia. His current research interests are neuro-plasticity and neuro-degeneration.

Tiara Shafiq qualified for Mensa but found the meetings of little interest to her. And contrary to family expectations she is carving out a career as a performance artist. As she says, ‘ A high IQ won’t save you in life’.

Simon Hollingsworth is a Rhodes Scholar and former Olympian. He has two degrees in Commerce/Law, and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. He completed his first university degree while training and competing as a hurdler in international sporting competitions.

Wayne Ormond is the founder and Managing Director of Refund Home Loans and was named on this year’s BRW’s Young Rich List. Wayne did not go to university and while he thinks IQ is important, he believes a person’s ability to be adaptable is more relevant.
