DCI-04 Imagineering – Module Overview

A look at Imagineering – how to imagine the future and engineer it into reality. When you begin with the end in mind and hold a shared vision with those around you, creative energy is focussed like a laser beam to achieve success.

It is said that to achieve success you should ‘begin with the end in mind‘, and that is part of the Imagineering process.  While there is a lot of talk about the importance and value of ‘visualisation’ to ‘see’ where you want to go, much more is required than that to achieve real success.

With Imagineering the aim is to first understand where you are now, then visualise where you want to end up, and then articulate the Gap that needs to be closed to get there.  From there you can develop Focus Statements to get started.

In this module we show you several techniques for doing this, from creative imaging, to BHAGs, to process flow charts, Mind Maps and Vision Boards.  So let’s get started so you can ‘see’ where you want to go, and then define how you might get there

Learning Outcomes

  • Visualisation and the Gap analysis
  • Visualisation techniques – imagery, Mind Maps, more
  • The Disney story – imagineering in action

Content

  • 5 videos totalling 41 mins
  • Introduction to visualisation and gap analysis
  • Creative imaging to guide strategic thinking
  • Other techniques for Imagineering at all levels

Exercises

After watching all the videos I recommend you undertake an exercise in Imagineering for yourself.  Video 4e-Disney gives a quick briefing on the exercise, but essentially you are are to create a visualisation of the current situation you which to focus on, and one on the desired future.

Feel free to try any of the techniques discussed in this module, but use as much visualisation, colour, and enthusiasm as you can.  Have fun with this exercise.
